Derek was born and raised in Firebaugh, CA and has a long family history in agriculture. He currently resides in Fresno with his wife and two children.

Derek received his undergraduate degree at Santa Clara University, his Master in Business Administration from California State University Fresno, and a Masters in Financial Planning & Taxation from Golden Gate University.
